Dear colleagues
Please accept my apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message.
Since you have been actively involved in the research of image analysis,
I believe that your contribution to the special session on Image and Volume
Segmentation of the upcoming 5th IASTED International Conference on
Visualization, Imaging, & Image Processing (VIIP) 2005 will make a significant
difference. I would therefore kindly invite you to submit a manuscript for
this event. Please find attached a call for paper and feel free to contact me
if I can be of further help.
Kind regards,
Dr Chang-Tsun Li Department of Computer Science University of Warwick Coventry CV4 7AL, UK E-mail: ctli@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.dcs.warwick.ac.uk/~ctli
================================================ Call for Papers
Special Session on Image and Volume Segmentation
The 5th IASTED International Conference on Visualization, Imaging, & Image Processing (VIIP) 2005
7 - 9 September, 2005 Benidorm, Spain
Segmentation is about partitioning an image, such as a satellite image, or an image volume, such as brain MRIs, into homogeneous regions. It is the first step toward the successful completion of automated computer vision tasks such as surgical planning and operation, scene analysis for autonomous vehicle and robot navigation, remote sensing, and automated inspection for quality control. Although having been long in the research agenda, segmentation remains challenging because of the semantic gap between the high-level human perception and the low-level features the segmentation is based on. The common practice of bridging the gap is human supervision/intervention. However, the requirement of human supervision/intervention limits the applicability of the vision systems. All these difficulties are unlikely to be eliminated in the near future and as a result segmentation will continue to attract attention from the computer vision and image processing communities.
The aim of this special session is to bring together researchers working in the relevant areas to share their expertise and investigate possible solutions to advance the development of segmentation techniques. We hereby invite the submission of high-quality, original, and unpublished research papers.
