Karlsruhe / Germany, August 29th 2005 - Dear colleagues,
one question is bothering me: given a 640x480 color camera, connected via 400Mbit Firewire. Is the following calculation for maximal resolution and fps right?
640 x 480 x 24 Bit = 7 372 800 Bit = 7,3 MBit
+ 15% protocol overhead: 7,3 MBit * 1,15 = 8,4 MBit
400 MBit /s : 8,4 MBit = 48, 19 fps
That is: almost 50 fps! Is the calc right? So why do I get only 15 or 30 fps from my cameras?
In addition to the Format 7 issue mentioned in a different reply you should also check whether the camera itself supports higher frame rates. Many (low-cost CCD) cameras are limited to 25 or 30 fps.
