Defining the content of an image perfectly is a very difficult task but
there are still some works worth looking at. Maybe you can look at the
works of Antonio Torralba from MIT. I am not sure that it is exactly
what you are looking for but Torralba is studying on object invariant
scene models. That is he is trying to obtain a representation of the
scene of the image before segmenting any object. Then he is using this
scene model as a prior information for object detection. Maybe you can
look at the below papers:
