If you can see grayscale shape of the model in the image you can use
some kind of shape recognition algorithm (may be using Hopf transform).
If points are represened in the image as colored shapless blobs you can
probably use some kind of color-based filter to extract them. You may
want to check SIOX method from GIMP open-sourced graphic editor. Can't
help much here - I have some expirience only with predetrmined shape
extraction from grayscale.
