basic clarification

hi gurus,
i am a newbie to the field of digital image processing. i want to do my
undergraduate final year project in image processing. if you could
suggest a few ideas that could be regarded as a good final year
project in DIP(with some good application & Value), it would be of
great help.Actually i am not able to get one with a very good
application..
secondly,is a processor implementation of DIP more valuable than a VLSI
implementation?if so why??
