Some suggestions:
1. Try to use simpler terms: decimation -> subsampling.
2. Your example image doesn't seem to show the concept very well. I
have a 1600x1200 monitor and I wasn't able to get both images on the
screen at one time. I suggest selecting a subregion that illustrates
your point and displaying that.
