resample black pixels

Hello friends:
I'm not skilled at all in image processing nor in programming and have a
problem. Imagine a digital camera in wich the ccd has most of the diodes
broken giving images were 80% of the pixels are black. The working cells are
randomly distributed in the image array and I would wish to use them to give
colour to the black ones. Some of the alive pixels are isolated or
surrounded by blacks, and some blacks can be considered as holes.
I would wish to be able to limit the distance of interpolation up to a
certain number of pixels (lets say 3, or better if variable).
I'd be thankfull to any one who helped me with ideas, code or pseudocode.
