By now, I expect that you have resolved your problem and I would like to
know the speed of your method.
I apply shift registration and alignment to blocks by using direct,
somewhat brute force, methods and, on a PC, my times are 15 secs for 3.3
mp images, with non-overlapping adjacent 16x16 blocks, 3 pixel search
radius, and nominal 0.0625 pixel accuracy.
