Re: [Search] Idea of topic face recognition (image retrieval content)

Dear friends,

I just started PhD in image processing at Monash University and am
currently looking for latest hot topic for my thesis.

Does anyone know any research group working on areas of face
recognition, medical images (in terms of image retrieval)?

This is a poor strategy, I would suggest.
Think of research as running a race. To win
the race, you must publish. (A PhD must be
original research worthy of publication.)
There are two ways to run a race. The first
is to be faster than the other entrants. The
second is to be the sole entrant.

It gets worse. It takes about three years to
complete a PhD. This is not an accident;
this is the time it takes to learn everything
about your chosen topic. If start doing
research in a "hot topic" then you are still
back at the starting line while everyone else
in the race is already half-way down the
track.

Or, anyone can suggest good topic, or professor, etc?

The most important decision a PhD student
makes is choosing their advisor. And yet
this is the decision most students spend the
least time on. Talk to current students of
any advisor you are considering. Better yet,
talk to *former* students.

To become a professor is to climb to the top
of a very tall very greasy pole. Most
professors are shits. You need to find one
that isn't. This is non-trivial. (Me bitter
and twisted? Never!)
