Apply a filter to the image, with _an intensity that is proportional to the gradient in the shape_.
That wolud be especially useful to blur special regions of an image, put speed riffles or change quite a lot of things that should not apply to the whole image or to the whole shape.
Which software could do that?:
No 2D software AFAIK, but the first implementation I saw of this
technique comes from Modo (3D modeling) - by Luxology.
You can apply user-defined fall-offs to any tool/operation interactively
- you can compare Modo's fall-offs gizmos to the gradients you describe.

Activate it and then draw an area selection with the laso tool or any other selection tool. ...
