Then why would you choose a line and a circle as test subjects? If the
interpolation is intended to be linear, you should look at the impulse
response.
There are gaps in the 2X circle that suggest buggy code.

Agreed. That is what I referred to as 'saw tooth' artifact.
Have you experienced any common reasons why that would happen? E.g.
rounding errors perhaps?
