If you try it, you'll find that most of the hits on the first few

Who are these "advocates" that are you attacking? Studying and
discussing derivative approximation, for cases where you *want* to
compute a derivative (recall that the original poster was asking about
a PDE), is not the same thing as denigrating the well-known utility of
difference operators as things useful in their own right.
