By special characters I mean any character that is not on the standard
key board. That would include the signs for the Pound Sterling and the
Japanese yen for instance, or that little circle with an R in it
(registered trademark), or some of the characters in other languages
like the German double s which looks like a curly R, or any of the
Chinese or Japanese characters. The list is endless.

Now I know that you can produce some of these characters on Microsoft
Word, but not all. And I know that some people used to be able to do
that on a standard keyboard but I forgot how.

I hope that I clarified what I have in mind.

Best regards
