Yes. The books will refer to audio and exercises in the exercise
manuals and on the CDs.
If you can get over your opposition to romaji, the other standard
for English learners is "Japanese: The Spoken Language"...
The Jorden spoken series (I've used these, too. Absolutely superb
and an excellent alternative examinination of the grammar. The main
texts alone, which cost less than $100 total, are valuable
references. They are, however, typographically ugly) ...
