I concur. Also, don't hang around socialising all the time with a bunch of
foreigners. IF at all possible, make friends with Japanese who aren't
interesting in English or other foreign languages. Drink with them, sing
karaoke with them, try to seduce them etc.
On the way home, crash your motorcycle and end up in a hospital for three
months where no one is interested in English. Oh, well, perhaps this last
bit is not for everyone. But it works well too.
