Sort-of connected, last week on TV (Kin-SMAP) they had a Kyoto maiko
-> geisha -> maiko who was speaking posh Kyoto-ben (or something) with
a very (to me) affected accent. It was really odd to me hearing all
the 〜ヘん endings in the middle of 敬語, with an NHK-type enunciation
on top! I think she would have had all the HLLHLers on this group
pulling their hair out.
