Talk to a Canadian about this. If you ask why they put the flag patch in
their backpacks, first they will say it's so they won't be mistaken for
Americans. The second reason will be to recount some story about how
Canadians once did some kind act for the people of Country X and ever
since then, Canadians have been loved by Country X. Norman Bethune seems
to be the most commonly cited example, and I don't know why.
