In the late 70s and early 80s I worked for a Japanese company in the
wilderness of the Northwest Territories; firewood was a daily necessity,
and the Japanese guys always called it $B$^$-(B. In the 80s I lived in an
area in the $BElKL(B where some folks I knew still heated their bath water
with a wood fire, and outdoor cook-outs were common. People always spoke
of $B$^$-(B. That's the word my wife always uses when we are camping. I
never heard of $B$?$-$.(B until this thread. But I've managed not to learn
lots of stuff over the years.
