Probably.

Ah, but it gets trickier when they are young (for example) American characters
in an English translation of a Japanese novel. Characters and settings are often
foreign or unspecific.
As for translations of things Japanese specific into English ... one particular
anime translation scarred me for life. Lets just say that お握り and hamburgers
were involved.
