Well what I do know is that I've just been playing a computer
game that uses $BC5$9(B most of the time but $BA\$9(B sometimes.
IIRC it used $BA\$9(B to refer to searching for someone('s home base)
when they had given their tail the slip.

Darn. You go and say that and I lose all confidence that I
actually know anything.

Well it's far from a hard and fast rule but I have the definite
impression that when $BA[$&(B is used it there is significant tendency
to the 'feeling' meaning and to emotionally significant contexts.

For example the four '$BA[$&(B' examples in WWWJDIC.

$B@oF.$K7H$o$kJ<;N$?$A$O@oF.$,;_$s$G$$$k$H$-$K9%$s$G!"J?2:L5;v$J;~Be$rA[$$JV$9!#(B

$B$3$3$G7/$K2q$*$&$H$O!"L4$K$bA[$o$J$+$C$?!#(B
Little did I dream that I should see you here.
$B%j%C%/$H%-%c%m%k$OFs%v7nA0$KJL$l$?$,!"%j%C%/$NJ}$O$$$^$@$KH`=w$rA[$$B3$1$F$$$k!#(B Rick and Carol broke up two months ago, but he's
still carrying a torch for her.
$B;d$O$"$J$?$N$3$H$r!"$$$D$bA[$C$F$$$^$9!#(B
I think of you all the time.

So now I'm just waiting for somebody to tell me I'm an idiot.
