This is another case of mismatch between English and Japanese. There is
no English "mieru" and no Japanese "see." "Look at," "miru," "see," and
"mieru," and "be visible" each have a "...-ness" that resides in both
viewer and viewee, but there's a difference in the intent--accidence
dimension that often makes "see" a very good translation of "mieru."

That's just my opinion, but I could be right.
