The phrase "間違える言葉" is another funky looking thing. The "ru" ending makes it look like a "future" form. So "machigaeru kotoba" should be "machigatte iru kotoba" or "machigatta kotoba". It isn't really necessary to use "machigaeru" but you could say "machigaete iru" or "machigaeta" if you prefer to use that verb. It also might be easier to understand if you said "machigatta tango" or "kotoba no machigai".

Despite what Cindy said, Japanese people usually wouldn't say "wakarimashita" here. "Wakarimashita" means something like "OK, I get it", so it's not particularly appropriate. You might say that if I tell you the way to get to the station, but here it's a little odd. You could say "naruhodo" or something.

Cindy mentioned "kau to omotte imasu" should be "kaou to omotte imasu" because it's something you're thinking of doing. If it was someone else, you might say "kare wa kau to omoimasu" = I think he'll buy it, but when it's "I" you don't. Also, I thought "omotte imasu" should be "omoimasu" here, am I mistaken? Cindy didn't correct it. I also think "yosasou node" should be "yosasou na node".
