That's close enough that I don't expect "wrong vs right" but
"context, strictness and/or personal taste". 

Now what I googled on was

Nobody was saying つまらなそう is wrong but there's disagreement over whether つまらなさそう is wrong or not. What was more interesting was that there were several 'false positives' where the same person had used _both_ つまらなさそう and つまらなそう
when writing.
