I think the problem with Google is that often it returns too much
information; if someone else has already done the research it's easier
to ask them to help out rather than wade through massive amount of hits
a Google search returns.

Not sure why it get's everyone's back up when people ask simple
questions here. Most academic research relies on the work of others up
to a point; you'd never get anywhere if you had to start from scratch
every time, which is what you're doing if you go to Google.
