The situation with プラットホーム/プラットフォーム is
interesting and, I think, moving a bit. Traditionally it has
been プラットホーム but I think プラットフォーム is gaining
on it and becoming legitimized.
The older dictionaries never had プラットフォーム; only
But recent editions of 広辞苑, 大辞林, etc.
have added entries for プラットフォーム, at least crossreferencing
The Eijiro file has far more
The GG5 seems to say there is a difference in meaning between the
two. In its プラットフォーム entry is says:
-- Unix のプラットフォーム上で on the Unix platform.
platforms.
OS a single-platform [mutiplatform] OS.
So trains may arrive at プラットホームs, but computer systems have
And Googits?
