I don't see any negative nuance in these "saiwai" usage. (So it's OK to me about this discussion.)
"Hukoochuu-no saiwai", is just "a bit of positive thing in entirely negative situation", isn't it? So "saiwai" itself is positive.

のではなくて、 positive と言えばいえますね。
数直線〈マージャンでもいいが)で喩えると −7 になってしまったかな、 と思ったが −2でとどまった。 でもこの事態は相対的にpositive なんで すね。
