***** WARNING! *****
By the time I finished writing this I realised that I didn't really have anything
useful to add. But gosh darn it having spent this long on it I'm going to post
anyway.
***** WARNING! *****
力尽く(oK); 力付く 【ちからづく; ちからずく】 (n,v5k) (1) by force; forcibly; with all one's might; (2) to recover one's strength; to recover one's spirit; to revive; to be refreshed; to be invigorated; to be encouraged
The definitions at goo (大辞林) seem to be neatly divided between 力尽く - sense 1 力付く - sense 2
Until I came across 力尽く looking for づ(く) / づ(き) readings for 尽く for KanjiLab* I didn't even realise that 力尽く was an option.
There are only three examples at WWWJDIC and they all appear to be sense 1. (Note that although there are two separate [EX] links the second has only the 力 kanji so it is impossible to know which of 尽 or 付 applies).
力尽く 12,100 Google hits 力付く 12,800 力づく 73,200 力ずく 81,600
Out of the first 10 hits for 力付く one was Sense 2, two were false positives and the other 7 were Sense 1 so it seems that 大辞林's distinction is not, or barely, maintained in practice.
* Now up to 1480 active kanji, 84% "mastered" (but I'm not kidding myself about the "mastered" bit I intend to reduce the number of guesses allowed from the default as soon as I get the rest of the kanji active).
----------------------------------------- How great you've mastered 84% of them !
As far as my language sense covers, "chikarazuku" or "chikaraduku (rare)", there seems to be three completely different meanings as follows:
1) 力尽く 〈ちからつく、ちからづく)= 力が尽きる (援護隊が来なかったので力尽いた。)
2) 力付く (ちからづく) = 力が加わる
(援護隊が来たので力付いた。)
3) 力ずく (ちからずく) = 腕ずく
(力ずくで奪っていった。)
