i dont think its totally "useless"... i just said that i think its not
a really accurate gauge of proficiency, sometimes in written japanese
and more in terms of conversational japanese, and the process through
how one learns japanese is actually more important that what jlpt level
he/she has. Of course if one can pass jlpt one, he/she must at least
know enough kanji and grammar well enough to be able to pass it. Its
not totally useless, it does show that a person at least knows a
certain amount of grammar and vocabulary to a certain extent.
