I skimmed past this last time but I happened to remember it later and have a few comments.

There are some amazing discrepancies. For example, here are the Google|AltaVista|Yahoo hit ratios for a few sample searches:
未収入金: 1 0.9 0.9 転換社債: 1 1.3 1.3 珍紛漢紛: 1 0.7 0.7
社会: 1 6 6 世界: 1 8.5 8.5
宛ら 1 10 42 (Yahoo.co.jp that is)
[AltaVista doesn't allow for language selection]
Yes it does. "RESULTS IN: () All languages () English" click on the underlined 'English' and select a different language.
And you might want to also try yahoo-hits for a second opinion (it also has advanced search for restricting by language, site, etc.).
While that option is pretty reliable for Google, it is useless for
Yahoo with Japanese. 未収入金 alone with Japanese pages selected returns *50* hits with Yahoo,
201,000 for me.
I guess you aren't using Yahoo.co.jp ? When I tried Yahoo.co.uk it just
didn't work at all. Yahoo.com works, but as you've reported selecting "Japanese language" doesn't do the job.
cf the 200,000 when 未収入金+の is used.
