Still fighting with the same Japanese text (lots of fun since i
understand a lot but there are some challenges).

そうするとあらビックリ老人が宙に
浮き其の儘車椅子の上まで移動。そ
れからリモコンでリフトを降下させ
れば我々の腰を痛めず老人が車椅子
に座ることができるのです。

Mainly two questions arise.
1) What is 痛めず?
2) Why is it spelled ビックリ and not びっくり?

As a guess to (1) i understand it's something come from
痛める but i don't know this inflection and it's not listed
in the table at Monash.

Regarding (2) i suspect it _MIGHT_ be that the writer
found that there has been quite a few hiragana characters
and tried to make it easier for the reader by putting in a
sort of separator.

How far from the truth did i hit?
