I can see the conversation that went on for this:

NSoE: "Yes, I know the literal meaning of the word, but in the context
it clearly means 'recycling'."
J: "But I think 'recycling' in Japanese is RISAIKURU."
NSoE: "We do not say 'material-cycle' in English."
J: "I think that maybe it is British English?"
NSoE: "I don't know about that...maybe..."
J: (smiling) "Ah yes, I think so.  Because JUNKAN means 'cycle'."
NSoE: "Yes, I know the word JUNKAN."
J: "SUGOI!!  Even I cannot read these kanji."

This goes on ad infinitum until the NSoE just gives up, accepts his
place in Japanese society, and says "fine, whatever."

どちらのお気持ちもよく分ります、はい。　英語スピーカーは「英語でそうは言 わない！」日本語スピーカーは「だって訳するとそうなるじゃない」。　

日本語スピーカーに冷たいとは承知の上で申し上げますが、英語に訳せる能力で はなくて、英語をネイティブのように熟知していないと的を得た英文、正しい英 文は書けませんよ。そうなるには、英語でありとあらゆる文章を読んで読んで読 みまくり、こんな時にはこんな風に表現するといった習慣や言葉の使い方に馴染 んでないと。

どうしてもクリスの忠告を無視するなら、日本人が訳した英文は英語スピーカー の物笑いの種になるよってシンディが言ってたって言っていいよ。

逆もまた真なりで私ら（日本語スピーカー）の英語もとうていネイティブに追い つけることはない。妙な英語を書いてアスホールさん達に笑われたり、冷やかさ れながらも負けないでコミュニケーションするしかない。どんなに冷やかされよ うが、こっちは立派なバイリンガルだからね。
