In which case, I don't know. But in English, "needs to be learned" is,
at least, bad if not out and out wrong.

learned the patterns..."
"It needs to learn the patterns." is better English. :-)
In English, we talk about our Spam filters needing to be trained though.
I don't know what the Japanese would say. Anyone with experience
translating spam filtering docs?
