Well I'm not one to turn away agreement but I think we're all on slightly different wavelengths here. By the time I'd got to that post I was well past 付け知恵 or 入れ知恵 and was solely considering the naturalness of the English sentence.

In the snow case wouldn't the まじめな生徒 be more likely to say 学
校に行った方がいいよ or 学校に行かなくちゃと思う.

As far as suggesting in the way Konrad initially indicated, perhaps the
better term would be 薦める.

学校に行くことを薦める。 I await the corrections of the masters.
