入れ知恵 is IMO still used commonly.
Just it has usually negative notion.
That is
A gives an idea to B,
and C, sees B act with that idea suspects, that it must be A, who gives such
a suggestion. (and C feels about A as negative person for that.) and say
これはAの入れ知恵に違いない。
(It must be A, who gave such a suggestion.
-- assuming B wouldn't think of it herself/himself.)
