Not that there is a difference between "go to school" (= attend classes at school) and "go to the school". If it was the latter "My suggestion is that we go to the school" then I would have had no objection to the sentence. 

It was the act of travelling to a certain place
called "school" that was my intention. Perhaps i
missed the "the" in there. My bad, then.
