Just a glance at the first few Tanaka Corpus entries... I suggest some
modifications to the "B:" lines associated with the following "A:" line
sentences, and a few other things. Suggested changes are indicated in the
form old => new:
For:
Seeing that you're not surprised, I think you must have known.
I suggest:
(1) place/spot/scene/site/(2) address/(3) district/area/locality/(4) one's
house/(5) point/(6) part/(7)
*****
For:
There is a certain amount of truth in ~.
I suggest (with concern for [1] & [4]):
(1) (uk) to live/to be/to exist/(2) to have/(3) to be located/(4) to be
equipped with/(5) to happen/to come about
*****
For:
"A cat?" asked the very old man.
I suggest:
(v5k) (1) to hear/to listen/(2) to ask
*****
For:
It's high time that you take a vacation, Jim's boss said to him.
I suggest:
(1) (fam) you/buddy/pal/(2) monarch/ruler/sovereign/(one's) master
And add to the B line:
取る
間
*****
For:
How long does it take to get to the station?
Isuggest:
How long does it take to get to the station over there?
And add to the B line:
*****
For:
Let's eat out for a change.
The translation seems to lose too much information. I weakly suggest:
Let's occasionally change where we always go to eat out.
And:
(1) outside/exterior/(2) open air/(3) other place
[1] [since there is no negative verb as far as I can see]
(1) (uk) always/usually/every time/(2) never (with neg. verb)
*****
For:
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
I suggest:
(1) to throw/to cast away/(2) to face defeat/to give up
*****
For:
Well, let's get down to business.
Could also be:
Now then, the main question is how to recognize this service.
Now then, the main issue is if there are any omissions.
And add to the B line:
Also:
いろう could be either:
慰労 (n,vs) recognition of services
遺漏 (n,vs) omission
*****
For:
Because this isn't in EDICT in this form I suggest:
*****
For:
Because this isn't in EDICT in this form I suggest:
*****
For:
Because this isn't in EDICT in this form I suggest:
I just burned up way too much time... The Tanaka Corpus will be a lifetime
of work.
