ほど遠い is the relevant phrase. Actually, probably more a word than a
phrase--one accent pattern and all that, although you will also find ほ

I've never tried to think of anything in a contrast nuance, but I was
surprised to find ほど近い in my アクセント辞典 when I looked up ほど遠
い. In fact, I had been in great danger of saying that the
non-occurrence of ほど近い was another piece of evidence that ほど遠い
should be considered a single word (and thus I had to put that
"although" in there).
So I'm glad a native speaker finds it a little unusual too.
