Orenji - heard on the subway



Here's an amusing linguistic riddle. Any gaijin who's travelled on
suburban trains in Tokyo would have picked this one up. The word
"Orenji" comes up frequently and distinctly in announcements, but if
you ask a native Japanese speaker, they will look at you with
mystification, and swear that the only possibility is the word for
"orange".

I'll give the answer later, but I'd be interested to hear guesses, and
how many others have noticed it too.
