Firefox on Linux

On Linux, the Japanese text in messages on Google Groups, English Wikipedia, etc., comes out with some kanji rendered in a different font than others, quite often at wildly varying sizes.

On Microsoft Windows I don't get these problems at all with Firefox, even though I downloaded the English language version and haven't done anything in particular to set it up to read Japanese pages.

Is there a cure for Firefox on Linux, and if so, what is it?
