I moved the rest of the title here, because many newsreaders truncate
long Subject lines.

I thought all topics were saved and could be searched.

Not all topics--there's a tag you can add to the header of a post to ask
Google to delete the post after a week or so. Something like this old
"X-no-archive" one. Whether Google actually deletes them or whether it
keeps them hidden is a topic of discussion elsewhere.
