the horrible convertor which comes with GNU Emacs. I had some small
problems with setup, as usual with Linux :(, so if anyone has any problems
I'd be happy to try and help.
What I've been unable to do is to input Japanese in xterm with SCIM...
In other terminals (konsole, gnome-terminal), when I press Ctrl-Space
the SCIM panel comes up, but in xterm, it doesn't. Is this a problem
with xterm so it won't work at all, or is it a problem with my setup and
it's supposed to work? I'm on Gentoo rather than Fedora, but it
shouldn't make a difference I think.
I'm using Fedora Core 4, and I run two IMEs (well, IME fontends - both
use Canna). For kterm/xterm I still use kinput2, and for all the other
apps like Firefox, OOWriter, etc. I use the IIIMF that came with the
system.
Interesting that Fedora Core 5 has dropped IIIMF in favour of SCIM.
I'm soon to try and get a replacement HDD for my old Thinkpad, so I'll
probably put FDC5 on it (unless my wife decides to use it, in which case
I'll <shudder/> get XP.)
What does anthy offer over canna as a henkan engine?
One other question: I've seen "reverse henkan" mentioned, and it seems
it could come in handy sometimes... Is this functionality available in
any way on Linux? And what's it called in Japanese?
I've not heard of it as part of any IME. I have a huge kanji/kana
collection running in my local xjdic, so I can usually get a reverse
that way. (The same file is in WWWJDIC as "revhenkan".)
