Try this. Go to a Japanese site concerning a subject with which you
are well acquainted: skateboarding, your favorite anime, Sicilian
agrarian reforms of the 13th century: whatever. Then start reading.
With your background knowledge you'll often be able to guess where
sentences are leading, which in turn can clue you to the meanings of
the kanji you're encountering. Corollary benefits are the
satisfaction and stimulus you'll derive from decoding "real"
adult-level Japanese, as opposed to material targeting Japanese
children or non-native learners.
While you're at it, you may want to give the POPjisyo or rikai.com
style translation pop-ups a whirl, to save yourself the need to consult
a paper or online dictionary as you go.
Good luck.
