Re: Language/culture question; $BIOK3$f$9$j (B

Collin McCulley <collin372@xxxxxxxxx> dixit:
Well, I haven't been posting here since unicode became so common
instead of JIS. It appears outlook can't properly take a unicode
message and reply to it in JIS without munging the Japanese text.
I guess I'm left with the choice of new newsreader or post in unicode...

Anyway partially corrected version (hopefully) below.

Well, your post had no MIME header for coding at all.

i think yusuri is ???

And the quoted Unicodes came out as "?".

So your version avoids the issue and just goes with kana ゆすり.
Which way (if any) do you conceptualize the meaning in the idiom?
I'd guess from your explanation you don't really feel a 強請り (extortion)
flavor in it?

And your Japanese was in JIS/ISO-2022-JP

I have nkf installed, so if I so desire I can pass UTF8-coded posts
through it and see them properly. I can even reply with a bit of
cut-and-paste. However nkf won't handle UTF8 (or anything else) in
"printed-quotable" encapsulation (e.g. =8F=AB=7D etc.) so about
half of the Unicode swish straight past me. It doesn't really bother
me.
