I would have bracketed that as 台風が来たと[思って]、明日のゴルフをのば
した, but whatever.

By the way, have the とs of 見てみると友達だった and
友達だと思った always been the same?

I prolly shouldn't say so right after B. Ito has said I'm wrong, but
yes, for sure if you mean were they both otsurui in the earliest texts.

As far as I'm concerned, "those two" とs are also the same as the ones
in 堂々と行進する, 女房と喧嘩する, 女房と一緒に旅行する, 女房と子どもの
くるのを待っている, etc. It/they just form(s) adverbs. Kinda like に.
