I'm waiting to see what happens with the new Intel based Macs. The hype is
that they will substantially improve performance. The Intel chip sets
might also mean that it would be easier to simultaneously release
applications on both the PC and the Mac. It depends on how well the
application developers have structured their products. If the link to the
operating system is loosely coupled from the code that provides the
functional process logic then it would be easy to convert a program that
runs on the same basic CPU to different operating systems.

I'm not very enthusiastic about XP on a Mac. I think one of the Mac's
strengths is its operating system. I'm reminded of when I, back in the
eighties, had an Apple IIE card in my PC. Although it seemed like a neat
gimmick when I bought it, I didn't get the same performance running Apple
programs on the PC than I did on the Apple IIE. This, even though the PC
was the more powerful platform, and the marketing hype said the Apple IIE
card had the same capabilities as an Apple IIE.
