I remember learning a whole list of funny conjunctions for the JLPT level one test which have been absolutely no use at all in the ten years since I passed the test, and I've been speaking Japanese every day, and reading Japanese most days, since then. One which I remember is "to iwan bakari ni".
I can't speak for the rest but I come across "といわんばかりに" and similar phrases
reasonably frequently in Japanese novels. I suppose it depends on what you read.
