Is there a Japanese dictionary like the Oxford English Dictionary?

Hello all, is there a Japanese language dictionary that provides the
earliest
usage (and later uses by famous authors) of a word? I imagine this would
be a fairly daunting effort since it would go back earlier than English
does,
to the compilations of 800 A.D. or so, and perhaps a lot earlier. What ARE
the earliest extant examples of the Japanese language?
I wondered about this after browsing in the "p" section of my romaji
dictionary and seeing a lot of sound words like pachipachi and parapara,
and I wondered how old these words are. I suppose manga have created
some new sound words, or have a lot been in the language a long time?
Best regards,
Dave
