No. Paul's comment just drew my attention to the "sometimes", which I
concluded was unnecessarily cautious. I wrote that entry around 1999,
and I think I was hedging in case there were innocent applications of
it. Now I think there aren't.
Needless to say my direct experience of 援助交際 is rather limited.
I'm sure Jim did some research on his own. My 2003 edition of contemporary
terms terms (現代用語の基礎知識) says that in 1996 援助交際 entered the
popular language as a
euphemism for teen prostitution - specifically the practice of middle
school girls in their school uniforms establishing a relationship with a
much older man.
