In this case, mixing polite form and non-polite form causes
a little problem, the last part 何でそういうのか sounds me a little odd.
or
Makes it more natural.

(Mixing forms may not always be bad, though.)

No, as the second thought, probably 「何でそういうのか」itself
is odd, not because of mixing polite/non-polite forms.

So, NSoJ would say:

そういうこと can be そんんこと as well.

You thought "Why you say so", and my version is "why you say such a thing".
I can't explain why the former sounds me odd. (but it does)

(well, your correction of my stoned English is welcome. :)
