here also, both with -ni and with -to are valid sentences, but -to
version
has nuance of "let's suppose it as desk", than -ni version "Let's
make it a desk".
Here also, "suppose" comes from -to being more subjectivity of speaker.
So, say you are hiking and you come across some logs that have fallen in
such a way that you could use them as a picnic table. It's around lunch
time, so you say ano maruta-o teeburu-to shiyou? You're not doing
anything to change the arrangement of logs, you're just changing your
mind from seeing a pile of logs to seeing a potential table. Is that it?
"Let us regard those logs as a table."
In this context, more natural to say
"kore-o isu-ni shiyou"... or rather "koko-ni suwarou!" 8)

If you say "kore-o isu-ni shiyou," are you planning to alter the things
in order to make them suitable as places to sit?
What would the difference be if you said "kore-o isu-to shiyou"?
That's the question I was hoping to have answered as well; keep at it
Sean, we'll (well, you'll) rassle 'em to the ground yet.
